Tips for beginners

So you are ready to be promoted from consumer to contributor of good BPMN.

Here is what you should do.

Please note a prompt Was this page helpful? at the top of (almost) every page. Press like or dislike icon and the counter will change. This will help authors better understand the value of their content. The sidebar on the left displays the Top-10 - the ten pages with the highest rating.

You don't need to register to like/dislike a page.

To comment or add content you need to register. (Or login if you already have an account.)

This step is optional but your content will get more attention if you introduced yourself to the community.

Find the Home Page in the drop-down menu in the upper right corner. Click the link to create a page.

The home page is the place to introduce yourself. Information about experience and achievements is most welcome.

If you want your avatar to appear in comments, upload a file named username.jpg or username.png to your personal space (user/username).

BPMNbox runs on DokuWiki. Help pages:

Probably the shortest way to learn formatting language is to find a page that implements what you need, copy & paste the source code.

Use your home page as a sandbox, or (better) create a page under your home page, e.g. user/username/playground.

Found a typo? Need explanations? Want to discuss?

Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Discussion section and make a comment.

  • you can use all markup features in comments, including drawing BPMN diagrams
  • you can create a top-level comment or reply to an existing comment

If you are able to improve an existing page, find the Edit this page button and go ahead!

Don't be afraid to screw something up - previous versions of the page are stored anyway.

The page you edited will have the “draft” status until it is approved by a moderator. Only after that the new version will be visible to other users.

You can create a new page in three ways:

  • Use the Page Tools button in the top menu. Select the namespace from the drop-down list and enter the name of the page.
  • Enter the address of a non-existent page in the command line.
  • Create a link on an existing page. Save the page and follow the link to create the new page. This method is preferable because not only a new page is created, but it's linked to existing content.

Usually, a website displays error messages when you enter the address of a non-existent page. Wiki sites are different - they consider this isn't an error but a (yet) unwritten page, and invite you to create it. Find the Create this page button in the menu on the right and start editing.

When created, the page obtains headings structure from the template - preserve them for pages of the same type to have the same structure.

To translate a page into another language, use the Translate]ions of this page drop-down menu at the top.
