Tips for beginners

So you are ready to get promoted from consumer to contributor of good BPMN.

Here is what you should do.

Please note a prompt “Was this page helpful?” at the top of (almost) every page. Press like or dislike icon and the counter will change. This will help authors better understand the value of their content. The sidebar on the left displays the “Top-10” - the ten pages with the highest rating.

You don't need to register to like/dislike a page.

To comment and add content, you need to register. (Or login if you already have an account.)

This step is optional, but your contributions will be viewed more favorably if you introduce yourself to the community.

To create a home page, find Home Page in the drop-down menu in the upper right corner. Click on this link and create a page.

The home page is where you can tell us about yourself. Information about experience and regalia is welcome.

If you want your avatar to appear in comments, upload a file named username.jpg or username.png to your personal space (user/username).

BPMNbox runs on the DokuWiki wiki engine. References:

* Formatting Syntax * good style

But perhaps the easiest way to learn markup is to find a page that implements what you need, look at it, copy and paste its source code

Use your home page as a sandbox for learning markup, or (better) create a page under your home page: user/username/somepage.

:!: Note that the content of your home page will be visible to other (registered) users. Subpages are visible only to you.

Found a typo? Something unclear? Want to argue?

Scroll to the bottom of the page to the “Discussion” section and leave a comment.

* you can use all markup languages in comments, including drawing BPMN diagrams * you can create a top-level comment or reply to an existing comment

If you see that you can significantly improve the quality of the existing page, find the “Edit page” button and go ahead!

Don't be afraid to screw something up - previous versions of the page are saved.

The page you edited will have the “draft” status until it is approved by one of the moderators. Only after that will the new version be visible to all users.

You can create a new page in three ways:

* Use the “Page Tools” button in the top menu. In the drop-down list, select the namespace and enter the name of the page. * Enter the address of a non-existent page in the command line. * Create a link on an existing page. Save the page, follow the link and create a new page. This method is preferable because you are not only creating a new page, but also linking it to existing content.

Usually, websites display error messages when you try to go to the address of a non-existent page. Wiki sites are different - they consider this not an error, but a (yet) unwritten page, and invite you to create it. Find the “Create page” button in the menu on the right and start creating.

To translate a page into another language, use the “Translate this page” drop-down menu at the top.

:!: BPMNbox is an international resource, so specify the page name in the address bar or in the link in English. The Russian name will be displayed, which will be taken from the first-level heading in the page text.
